You learned to push down your emotions and just make it through long ago

Maybe you've tried talking about your needs, only to have your concerns brushed aside. Attempting to dodge painful memories and putting others first has left you feeling drained. You might have even started distancing yourself from people with the hopes that the more distance you make, the easier it’ll be to live your life authentically.

Some days, you are actually able to convince yourself that things are ok…but…

If you’re being completely honest, the strategies you’ve been using are not bringing the relief you hoped for. And when you add the stress of juggling daily life, family expectations, intergenerational traumas, and complex relationships, it starts to feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders and there’s no relief.

you are at the right place if you’re tired of…

  • Struggling through your relationships, unsure of how to fix the issues

  • Living Unhappy, unfulfilled, unsettled, and asking “Is it me?”

  • Feeling pulled in multiple directions without a clear path forward.

  • Repeating the same patterns and traumas of generations before you, waiting for change to happen

Finding the right support can be hard, especially when the people you care about are part of the issue.

The good news is…

When we work together, you will not have to navigate this journey towards your healing alone.

At Adorn Therapy Services, we help clients just like you gain insight and discover tools to balance their deepest needs with the challenges posed by society, culture, and identity, empowering them to break free from feeling stuck, find understanding, and make positive changes in their life.

our specialties

  • You've started to view relationships as unsafe and so you've been hesitant to let your guards down. But you still want fulfilling relationships. You yearn for it.

Whether through individual or couples work, we can address a number of different relationship concerns, including issues with communication, boundary setting, assertiveness, grief/loss, family dynamics, dating and/or romantic relationships, workplace stressors, peer relationships, and more.

You deserve connected, fulfilling relationships. Let us help.

  • The impact of a traumatic experience can be pervasive and hinder our movement forward. Whether it is a specific incidence, or a generational pain passed from our parents, We specialize in supporting clients to work through the impacts of trauma.

If you are tired of carrying the weight of memories and pain that are difficult to erase and need a safe place to be heard and supported as you work to unburden yourself, we can help.

  • Lately, your days seem to be filled with worrying and overthinking. You hyperfocus on how others behave towards you and create stories of what they think about you, even without ever fully engaging. You’ve been living in the stories rather than reality and you feel like your thoughts remove you from the real experiences you want.

Sometimes, you disregard your own needs, feelings, or wants because you’ve invalidated them for so long. You've perfected your inner critic voice after years of experience hearing criticism from others... Maybe your parents did it, your friends did it, society normalized it too…

You have started to think of a possibility of experiencing life differently and are ready for change.

  • Facing racism, discrimination, or a hostile work environment can be painful, stressful, and mentally exhausting. We provide a safe space where you can openly discuss your experiences. Together, we'll work on strategies to cope, heal, and empower yourself so you can reclaim your well-being and thrive, even in the adversity.

  • As an immigrant or a child of immigrants, you might be navigating the unique challenges of balancing two cultures, feeling torn between the traditions of your family and the demands of the society you live in. Generational differences can create tension, leading to misunderstandings and conflicts within your family. You may also be dealing with the emotional impact of immigration trauma or struggling with the pressure to assimilate while preserving your cultural identity.

These experiences can be overwhelming, but you don't have to face them alone.

We specialize in helping individuals like you work through these complex issues, providing a space where you can explore your identity, heal from past traumas, and find a sense of balance and belonging.

Hi, I’m Dr.Tofunmi Oni, founder of Adorn Therapy Services. After years of hearing advice like “just focus on yourself” from well-meaning sources who may not fully grasp the nuanced challenges of self-discovery within deeply rooted family, cultural, and societal expectations—and experiencing the power of my own cultural identities minimized in therapeutic settings—I recognized that the journey toward healing in communities of color is both complex and unique. The significant effort it takes to ease the stress and pain tied to our experiences, harness our power, while building and maintaining healthy relationships in all parts of our life, requires an approach that truly understands and respects this complexity. We’re here to provide that support.

Healing from past traumas and changing unhelpful patterns in relationships can be tough; no one ever taught us how to do it. That's why having culturally responsive therapists by your side, someone skilled in their field and experienced in your specific challenges, is crucial. As a virtual practice serving individuals and couples in MD, D.C., VA, OH, and nationwide, Adorn Therapy Services was established to support clients like you who are seeking to deepen insight and under yourself, heal relational wounds, and be re-empowered to change the parts of your life that are causing pain. Our professionals specialize in multicultural integrative approaches to help you navigate this complex journey of healing and growth. We are excited to embark on the journey with you.
